Bo Smith worked for AT&T doing repairs and installations, but the corporate environment was changing. It was no longer providing him the balance he once enjoyed. Bo was good at repairs, but always also loved working with customers. He decided to leave his job and began searching for new business ventures. The Dentist’s Choice provided Bo the best of both worlds, allowing him to continue using his repair skills while also getting facetime with his customers. He has owned and operated his franchise for six and a half years and hasn’t looked back.  

QUESTION AND ANSWER

DC: Have you taken up new hobbies or pursuits since becoming a Dentist’s Choice franchise owner?

BO: I’ve had time to take up running. I like to do that most mornings, but I’ve also started giving back to the community. A while back, one on my employees became sick and could no longer work for me. It really just broke my heart to see her going through these struggles. She was in and out of the emergency room a lot. She then got involved in a nonprofit called Cuisine for Healing. They deliver healthy food to sick and recovering patients, like people going through chemotherapy, that often have trouble eating. I’ve been able to get involved, too, and have volunteered my time as a delivery driver for them for the past few years. In the past few months I have become a member of the board of directors and now help fundraise for them. I love devoting my time because I know I’m helping people who really need it. It really just broke my heart, so knowing that I could do something to help was a comforting feeling.

DC: What is a typical day like for you?

BO: I usually get up, get my coffee and get on my computer. I like to do repairs in the mornings and get started on any other work afterwards. I’ve been able to create a routine over the years, and I like to stick to it. It keeps me motivated and on track each day.

DC: How has your lifestyle changed since owning a Dentist’s Choice franchise?

BO: I have more control over all the aspects of my life. I can control how much I work, when and for how long. I’ve been able to spend my free time more meaningfully. Overall, I enjoy my everyday challenges and appreciate my free time more.
